Our Board of Directors

Guided by purpose

Hilltop Home’s mission is made possible by the dedicated leadership and oversight of our Board of Directors. This diverse group of professionals brings together expertise from fields such as healthcare, education, law, finance, nonprofit management, and community advocacy. United by a shared passion for improving the lives of medically fragile children with developmental disabilities, our board plays a vital role in shaping Hilltop Home’s vision and sustaining its impact.

Our Board of Directors provides strategic guidance, ensures responsible financial stewardship, and champions the values that define Hilltop Home: compassion, dignity, and excellence in care. Through thoughtful decision-making and active community engagement, they help us stay true to our mission while continuously growing and adapting to meet the evolving needs of the children and families we serve.

Board members are not only stewards of governance—they are ambassadors of hope. Many serve on committees, volunteer their time, and advocate for Hilltop Home throughout North Carolina. Their commitment ensures that our home remains a place where every child has the opportunity to thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.

Together with our skilled staff and generous supporters, the Hilltop Home Board of Directors helps us uphold a legacy of care, compassion, and community leadership that spans more than 60 years.

Shannon Montague

President, Board of Directors

As President of the Board of Directors, Shannon Montague is continually inspired by the children and staff of Hilltop Home. She is moved by the love and care that go into creating a consistent, safe, and beautiful environment where each child can grow and thrive. Since joining the Board in 2021, Shannon has brought a wealth of experience in education and ministry to her leadership.

Shannon currently serves as Director of Children and Family Ministries at Edenton Street United Methodist Church. Her background includes time as a Wake County Public School teacher and as Preschool Director at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. These roles have shaped her deep commitment to supporting children with complex needs in nurturing, stable settings.

Outside of her work at Hilltop, she enjoys reading, gardening, spending time at the lake, exercising, and watching SEC sports with her family. She has been married to her husband, Roger, for 25 years, and they have three children. A favorite Hilltop memory is the Fall Festival, where she joined the children in exploring sensory activities—joyful, messy, and unforgettable. She lives by the simple but powerful principle: Be kind and respect everyone.
